One of the most exciting features of the EU4AGRI project is its focus on the digital transformation of the agricultural sector. By introducing cutting-edge technological solutions, the project has helped farmers increase productivity, boost profits, and access new markets across the region.

From drone technology for precision agriculture, to smart farming software, digital advisory services, and ICT solutions for the food industry—EU4AGRI has introduced a wide array of tools that are reshaping the agricultural landscape. These ICT investments include digital tools for farm management, data collection systems, automation, sensor technology, drone applications, and other advanced IT solutions aimed at enhancing efficiency and sustainability across the agri-food sector.

Drones now allow real-time crop monitoring, enabling farmers to precisely determine where water, nutrients, or pest control are needed—reducing costs and increasing yields. Smart agricultural platforms provide weather updates, soil analyses, and expert advice, enabling real-time, data-driven decision-making that improves efficiency and reduces waste.

EU4AGRI has also supported innovation among agri-tech entrepreneurs and research institutions by fostering the development of software tools and digital solutions tailored to the specific needs of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s agricultural sector. These tools have improved production processes and logistics, helping local products meet EU standards and remain competitive in both domestic and international markets.

Why Digitalization Matters

Agriculture in Bosnia and Herzegovina has long faced challenges—fragmented land plots limit production, supply chains remain inefficient, and outdated technology makes it hard for farmers to stay competitive. But thanks to EU4AGRI, farmers and agricultural businesses are embracing digital tools that bring them closer to EU standards and a more sustainable future.

For many, digital solutions have been transformative. With smarter, data-driven tools, farmers can make better decisions, increase crop yields, and manage resources more effectively. These modern technologies enhance productivity and position local producers to meet EU requirements, opening doors to new markets and boosting global competitiveness.

Digitalization is also helping farmers adapt to climate change. Precision agriculture techniques reduce water use and pesticide application, making agricultural production not only more productive but also environmentally responsible.

Perhaps the most exciting change is how digitalization is attracting young people to agriculture. Once seen as a traditional and physically demanding sector, agriculture is evolving into a high-tech industry. With access to digital tools, automation, and smart solutions, a new generation of agri-entrepreneurs is finding opportunities to invest in the future of rural economies. This shift is not just about technology—it’s about changing perceptions and building a forward-looking, innovative sector ready for the challenges ahead.

A New Chapter for Agriculture in Bosnia and Herzegovina

With over 2,600 stakeholders—farmers, cooperatives, and agribusinesses—involved, the impact of EU4AGRI’s digitalization efforts is already visible. As more farmers embrace smart technologies, the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s rural economy looks brighter, greener, and more resilient than ever before.

The transition to digital agriculture is more than a technological upgrade—it is a transformation of livelihoods, sustainability, and economic opportunity. Through EU4AGRI, Bosnia and Herzegovina is making bold strides toward a smarter, more sustainable, and competitive agricultural future.

Success Stories from the Field

In the heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a quiet digital revolution is transforming the agricultural sector thanks to the EU4AGRI project. Three standout beneficiaries—Superior Group, INGEB, and MLJEKARA PAĐENI d.o.o.—have recognized the power of technological innovation and adopted digital solutions to enhance operations and set new industry standards.

Superior Group, a leader in agricultural production, harnessed the power of digital tools to optimize its processes. By integrating advanced data analytics and precision agriculture technologies, they achieved significant digital upgrades. Digital transformation not only increased productivity in chicken fillet production but also made them more competitive both locally and internationally, supported by new equipment that automated production processes.

INGEB similarly embraced digitalization to optimize its supply chain and improve product quality. They adopted a proactive approach to climate resilience by promoting the use of microbiological fertilizers—helping farmers mitigate the effects of climate change while improving soil health and crop productivity. With EU4AGRI support, INGEB implemented innovative solutions that enhance sustainability, reduce dependence on chemical inputs, and strengthen sector resilience. Through smart logistics systems and real-time monitoring, they reduced waste and ensured product freshness. Their commitment to innovation has solidified INGEB’s reputation as a visionary company in the agri-food sector, ready to meet evolving market demands.

Meanwhile, in the picturesque town of Bileća, MLJEKARA PAĐENI d.o.o. embarked on a digital transformation journey. This family-owned dairy, founded over two decades ago, has grown from processing 130 liters of milk daily to over 100,000 liters. With EU4AGRI support, they installed a 148 kW solar power plant on the roof of their facility, significantly reducing energy costs and improving sustainability. They also acquired advanced lab equipment—such as cryoscopes and pH meters—to ensure the highest quality of dairy products. The total investment in software development amounted to BAM 85,550, and BAM 40,503.96 was allocated for digitized equipment.

These investments not only increased production capacity but also opened the doors to new markets across Europe. By adopting modern technologies, MLJEKARA PAĐENI d.o.o. is showing how digitalization can modernize traditional industries, making them more efficient and environmentally sustainable.

Laying the Groundwork for a Smarter Future

These success stories reflect a broader trend in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s agriculture: the integration of digital technologies as a key driver of growth and sustainability. Thanks to EU4AGRI, businesses like Superior Group, INGEB, and MLJEKARA PAĐENI d.o.o. are not only improving operations but also setting the standard for the digital agriculture of tomorrow.

Together, they are creating a sustainable future—one digital innovation at a time.

Total investments in digitalization through the EU4AGRI project, including EU funding and user co-financing, amount to BAM 8,975,779.84, clearly demonstrating a commitment to modernization and advancement of the agri-food sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Of this, BAM 5,797,566.71 was funded through EU4AGRI, while BAM 3,178,213.13 was co-financed by the beneficiaries. These investments are not only raising the competitiveness of agricultural producers, but also laying the foundation for a sustainable and tech-driven future.
